Zeekr has unveiled its high-performance 001 FR, challenging the dominance of Tesla’s Model S Plaid in the electric car market. With a quad motor setup, the Zeekr’s 001 FR boasts a staggering 1,230 bhp and 1,280 Nm of torque. The vehicle can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 2.07 seconds, though its top speed is capped at 280 km/h. In contrast, the Tesla Model S Plaid can reach speeds of up to 322 km/h.
Zeekr’s innovative “straight waterfall oil cooling technology” ensures optimal performance even under extreme conditions. The rear motors of the car are encased in carbon fiber, hinting at Zeekr’s commitment to durability and efficiency. Powering this beast is a CATL Qilin 100 kWh battery pack, equipped with cutting-edge 800 V technology. A unique “multifunctional elastic interlayer” in the battery enhances energy density, heat dissipation, and overall safety. Impressively, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in less than 15 minutes.
For safety during high-speed maneuvers, the 001 FR features ten-piston AP Racing front calipers and 420 mm Brembo carbon ceramic front discs. The car’s design isn’t just about performance; its carbon fiber body package, including a front splitter and rear diffuser, enhances aerodynamics. Additional carbon fiber elements, like the roof and mirror caps, add a touch of luxury and sophistication.
One of the standout features is the car’s built-in satellite communications, eliminating the need for a cellular network. Zeekr has announced that deliveries for the 001 FR will commence in October 2023, but with a catch: only 99 units will be available each month. Despite being a newcomer in the performance segment, Zeekr’s 001 FR is already drawing comparisons to hypercars, thanks to its impressive specs.
The car’s ability to pull 1.4 G’s in corners speaks volumes about its handling capabilities. A unique feature allows the 001 FR to perform tank turns, with wheels on one side moving forward while the other side reverses, enabling the car to spin 360 degrees. Zeekr’s commitment to innovation is further highlighted by its plans to launch 72 satellites by 2025, enhancing its in-car communication systems.
