In a recent list published by Beach Atlas as part of the “Golden Beach Award 2024,” Playa El Doradillo in Argentina was recognized as one of the top 100 beaches in the world, ranking 51st. This prestigious recognition highlights beaches not only for their natural beauty but also for their cultural significance, value to the local community, inclusivity, and natural diversity.
Playa El Doradillo, located in the province of Chubut, near Puerto Madryn, is famous for its impressive natural surroundings and its accessibility for whale watching, especially between June and December. Additionally, this area preserves the Patagonian coastal ecosystem, home to species such as guanacos, rheas, foxes, maras, and seabirds. The beach offers a unique experience where visitors can enjoy nature at its best, with extensive gravel beaches and clear waters, ideal for observing marine wildlife in a tranquil environment that respects the ecosystem.
The El Doradillo Protected Natural Area, created in 2001, is a coastal zone north of the city of Puerto Madryn that stretches from Punta Arco to Cerro Prismático. The natural reserve is a strip 25 kilometers long and 3 kilometers wide along the coast of Golfo Nuevo. Getting to El Doradillo from the city center is easy. One must drive north, take Route 1, and after passing the Almirante Storni pier, head towards the coast on Route 42. The road has a gravel section that is in good condition and well-signposted.
