China Green Electricity Investment launches 3.5 GW Midong photovoltaic (PV) farm in Urumqi in China’s Xinjiang region.
Under the CGDG, this becomes the world’s largest solar plant, pushing behind the 2.2 GW plant set up by the Chinese state-owned utility Huanghe Hydropower Development in October,2020.
Comprising over 5.26 million panels, the Xinjiang Midong solar plant can supposedly power the entire country of Papua New Guinea for a year.
The plant, which became operational on June 3, holds a total investment of CNY 15.45 billion.
