SpaceX Aiming for a March Launch of the Highly Anticipated Starship Rocket
SpaceX and its CEO Elon Musk are preparing for a potential launch of their highly anticipated starship rocket.
The launch, dependent on ongoing tests, will test the reusable spaceship's ability to carry astronauts on missions to the moon.
As part of NASA's Artemis program, SpaceX has been tasked with developing a human landing system for lunar exploration.
Elon Musk confirmed the launch plans in response to a Twitter user, stating that if all tests go smoothly, the launch could occur in March.
The objective for SpaceX is to showcase the versatility and capability of starship for missions to the moon, Earth orbit, Mars, and beyond.
In 2021, NASA selected SpaceX and awarded them a $3 billion contract to provide a commercial human landing system for its Artemis program.
The plan is for SpaceX's starship to carry astronauts to the moon for the Artemis 3 and 4 missions slated for 2025 and 2027.
The upcoming test flight for the starship will blast off from the Starbase spaceport in Boca Chica, Texas.
Despite a setback during a prototype test in July, SpaceX remains undeterred and continues to test and improve their technology for future launches.
