Space Lasers & High Seas: SpaceX’s Revolutionary Internet Access for the Adventurous
SpaceX's Starlink has announced the launch of a global roaming service, offering internet connectivity around the world using inter-satellite links, or "space lasers."
The service is available to residential customers for a $599 Starlink kit and a $200 per month subscription fee.
While the service is less restricted than other Starlink offerings, regulatory approval in some countries is still pending, which could impact the company's ability to offer the service in those areas.
For customers who travel within their home continent, there is a $25 per month Portability add-on available, allowing them to take their Dishy with them.
Starlink also offers an RV plan for users who want internet access while traveling, but it is only available in certain parts of the world and comes with slower speeds.
The company also offers a Maritime plan for users who need internet access at sea, but this plan is quite expensive at $5,000 per month.
Customers outside the US will be required to act as the Importer of Record for the Starlink Kit and ensure compliance with local laws and regulations, including paying customs duties and import taxes.
The global roaming service is projected to improve over time as Starlink's space lasers enable direct satellite-to-satellite data transmission in orbit.
Despite financial struggles in the past, SpaceX is expanding and waiting for regulatory approval in countries including India, Pakistan, and Cambodia, among others.00:23 AM
