Wangchuk undertook a five-day "climate fast" to draw attention to the issue of protecting the fragile environment of Ladakh.

He initiated his fast at the 18,000-foot-high Khardungla pass, but it was disrupted due to extreme temperatures and continued at his institute.

But, later he wasn’t allowed to fast there.

Wangchuk has written in his SOS message to PM Modi expressing his discontent over corporate expansion tin Ladakh.

The main reason behind his climate fast is to get Ladakh added to the 6th schedule of the Indian constitution.

Wangchuk is an innovator and engineer and is the inspiration behind Amir Khan’s iconic character in Indian Film “3 Idiots.”

Wangchuk has previously called for the urban population to realize its role in exacerbating the climate crisis and has used the situation in Ladakh to showcase the effects of the climate crisis.

He ended his fast at the Himalayan Institute of Alternative Ladakh and stated that the local government is undermining peaceful Ladakhis in the new develøpmental agenda.
