Semaglutide Curbs Alcohol and Smoking Cravings

Now a new study has shown that semaglutide could help people cut down on their alcohol intake.

Semaglutide is a medication known as a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist or GLP-1RA.

According to Dr. Shashank Joshi, an endocrinologist, GLP-1 receptor agonists work in the brain to regulate appetite.

However, apart from its proven effects on diabetes and weight loss, its other effects remain experimental.

It also reduced drinking quantity and the frequency of heavy drinking days in adults with alcohol use disorder.

The study found that the use of semaglutide reduced the average consumption of cigarettes per day.

This was observed among participants who smoked cigarettes in the placebo group.
