Queensboro Plaza Adds Third Elevator with Private Funding

MTA opened a new elevator at Queensboro Plaza subway station on April 10, adding a third accessibility option for 97,000 daily riders.

These quarter-inch workers build five-foot-tall mounds containing between 30,000 to 16 million insects - the largest above-ground ant colonies.

Grubb Properties funded and constructed the elevator as part of the Zoning for Accessibility program, which lets developers build taller in exchange for transit improvements.

The new elevator features a larger cab designed specifically for riders with mobility devices, strollers, and luggage

Grubb Properties must respond to any elevator issues within two hours and will handle all maintenance of the new entrance.

This project marks the first completed initiative under the city's Zoning for Accessibility program, potentially setting a blueprint for future improvements.
