Plastic has become one of the most harmful pollutants in today’s world, and given the amount it is found in, plastic is also one of the most produced commodities.

Since the 1950s, the rate of plastic has only ever increased and the rate is extremely alarming, as of today, annual production of plastic reaches a few hundred million tonnes.
Not only are plastics manufactured on a huge scale, there’s always a humongous amount of plastic waste as well.

Plastics are non-biodegradable and the chemicals present in plastics are immensely harmful, not only for the earth but also for human health for plastic or such components are found in food, clothes and son causing a direct impact on human bodies.
In this context of harmful adversary caused by plastic, the UNEP took initiative to reduce plastic , and this duty is shouldered by the INC (Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee).

This committee is dedicated to drafting a mutual treaty to reduce or ban the usage of plastic, but given the commercial importance of plastic a sudden reduction or stoppage would cause serious problems for various countries.
Almost 200 countries have signed up for the upcoming INC meet, which is supposed to be organized in Busan of South Korea, the session is thus named INC5.
Experts have repeatedly emphasized that coming out of the disagreements and reaching a mutual understanding to the point where a treaty can be drafted is extremely important for environmental purposes.
It can be concluded that, it is high time plastic usage, especially non-recyclable single use plastics, are slowly reduced and eventually stopped for environment and human health.
