To address this issue of plastic pollution, the United Nations organized the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) and this organization sat for negotiations this year in Busan, South Korea.

Plastic production has been on steady increment since the last century and it has only ever progressed, and so has plastic waste. In the last 15 years plastic production has increased manifold.

The main obstacle in this treaty drafting comes from the major oil producing countries like Russia, Saudi Arabia and so on, whose economy will be affected if plastic production is curbed.

Given there are so many countries participating in the talks with plastic lobbyists from powerful nations, it would certainly be difficult to reach a solid point of agreement, but silence from big powers like China and America is causing further issues.
