Magnetic field strengths between 5 and 21 microteslas were revealed from lunar far-side basalt samples.

The findings are contrary to previous theories that had indicated a sharp decline in the Moon's magnetic dynamo around 3.1 billion years ago.

Researchers suggest a basal magma ocean or core crystallization might have driven this magnetic resurgence.
