Melbourne Saves Falcon, Welcomes Komodo Dragon

Located in the south-eastern region of Australia, Melbourne is the capital of the state of Victoria, and is situated on the banks of  Yarra river.

Australia is quite popular for its wildlife and Melbourne is no exception, and is thus home to quite a number of zoos like Melbourne Zoo and so on.

Among many zoos in the state of Victoria is the Zoo Victoria which is an organization for zoo based conservation and has four zoos under it.

This role of wildlife conservation has been meticulously played by Melbourne for years now and recently two incidents just expanded the role.

A young peregrine urban falcon was trapped between glass windows at Collins street, and the Victoria Zoo stepped up to execute an epic rescue of the same.

The Victoria Zoo and the Healesville Sanctuary worked in collaboration to make sure the falcon was safely rescued.

Attempts were initially made to release the falcon, however unsuccessful, thus treatment was carried out and minor injuries were successfully mended enabling the falcon to take safe flights.

Another incident is about the arrival of a Komodo dragon in Melbourne Zoo, it’s a two years old reptile, first of its kind to be bred in Australia.

Komodo dragon is an endangered species and has made its spot in the IUCN red list, and this species can get huge in both size and weight making their diet quite extensive.
