India Set to take a Majestic Leap Towards Lunar Exploration with Chandrayaan-3

India is all set to launch its new mission to the moon, Chandrayaan-3. This is India’s third mission.

The launch has been scheduled for 14th July, with dates being variable while it is said to land by the last week of August.

With advanced technology, the mission is a follow-on mission to Chandrayaan 2 to demonstrate a safe landing and roving the lunar surface to conduct in situ chemical analysis and scientific experiments.

The spacecraft consists of a Lander and Rover Configuration.

The objectives of the Chandrayan-3 mission are, to demonstrate a soft landing of the spacecraft on the lunar surface, to demonstrate the Rover moving on the lunar surface, and to conduct in situ chemical analysis during the rover’s mobility.

Advanced technology has been made use of in the mission, such as Altimeters, Velocimeters, Inertial Measurement, which is Laser Gyro based Inertial referencing and Accelerometer package, Landing Leg Mechanisms.

Several tests have also been administered and carried out successfully to check the demonstration of these advanced technologies on Earth.

The spacecraft is expected to soft-land on the surface of the moon on the 23rd or 24th of August.
