Electricity prices in Europe saw a decline in the fourth week of August, with notable increases in Spain and Portugal.

Spain’s MIBEL market rose by 0.7%, and Portugal’s by 1.0%, while the Italian IPEX market decreased by 5.3%.
The Nordic Nord Pool market saw the largest drop, with prices falling by 65%, and the UK and Netherlands experienced significant decreases of around 29% and 39%, respectively.
Most markets had weekly average prices below €65/MWh, with Spain (€82.34/MWh), Portugal (€82.60/MWh), and Italy (€123.31/MWh) being exceptions.
The Nordic market recorded the lowest weekly average price at €7.42/MWh.
Negative electricity prices were noted on August 25, with the Dutch market hitting its lowest hourly price at -€44.92/MWh.
Solar power generation fell in most markets, with Portugal and Spain declining by 3.4% and 3.3%, respectively, while France and Italy saw increases of 14% and 3.3%.
Wind energy production surged, particularly in Germany (161%), France (76%), and Italy (21%), but decreased in Portugal by 15%.
Electricity demand rose in countries with an August 15 holiday, notably in Spain (6.0%) and Italy (3.4%), while it fell in Portugal, the Netherlands, and the UK.
