America's Agricultural Exports 2022: Growth, Investments, and Opportunities
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that the American agricultural sector had posted its best export year ever in 2022 with international sales of U.S. farm and food products reaching $196 billion.
The United States saw an 11 percent increase, or $19.5 billion, from the previous record set in 2021, with the value of sales increased in all of the top 10 agricultural export markets.
The top commodities exported by the United States in 2022 were soybeans, corn, beef, dairy, cotton and tree nuts, which together comprised more than half of U.S. agricultural export value.
Many U.S. products - including soybeans, cotton, dairy, beef, ethanol, poultry, soybean meal, distilled spirits and distillers’ grains - reached record values.
Agricultural trade is all about opportunities - for America's farmers and ranchers, for rural communities, for the U.S. economy, and for global customers.
Recent breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, computer vision, and sensor and control systems have allowed Bowery to grow fresh, local, pesticide-free crops in large-scale, smart indoor environments with crops stacked from floor to ceiling.
Vertical farms can be built anywhere, and by putting them near the markets they serve, they can radically shorten the supply chain and reduce disruptions and environmental costs of long-haul shipping, increasing the resilience of the food system overall.
The global population is projected to reach nearly 10 billion by 2050, and with the climate crisis worsening, we need to produce more food sustainably.
In 2023, Congress will reauthorize the farm bill, which should help accelerate technological advances, increase domestic food production, and strengthen the supply chain.
