Lost 20-year-old hiker Sam Benastick survived 50 grueling days in British Columbia's harsh wilderness after a routine fishing and hiking trip turned into a fight for survival.

From his car to a creek-side camp, Benastick moved strategically through the wilderness before constructing a shelter in a dried creek bed.

The Buffalo Inn became command central for Benastick's family, who stayed 20 days while coordinating search efforts with local volunteers.

Frostbite and smoke inhalation took their toll on the young hiker, who nearly collapsed when spotted on the service road.
