TreeHouse Foods has expanded its recall of Walmart’s Great Value chicken broth after the FDA upgraded it to a Class II designation, citing risks of bacterial contamination from compromised packaging. The recall affects Great Value chicken broth distributed across 242 Walmart stores in nine Southern states.
The affected 48-ounce chicken broth cartons carry an expiration date of March 2026 and UPC code 007874206684. The product was distributed in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas.
“The health and safety of our customers is always a top priority,” a Walmart spokesperson said. “As soon as we were made aware of the issue, we took action to remove all impacted product from the select, impacted stores.”
The FDA defines a Class II recall as one that may cause “temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.” The primary concern stems from packaging failures that could compromise product sterility, potentially leading to bacterial growth and foodborne illness.
