Toyota Motor Corporation is taking steps to fix two safety problems affecting 147,000 recent vehicles. The issues could affect how well the brakes work in some trucks and how strong certain seatbelts are in other models.
The bigger concern involves the Tacoma pickup trucks. About 106,000 Tacoma 4-wheel drive vehicles from 2024 and 2025 equipped with 16-inch brakes and 17-inch Toyota wheels might have a problem with their brake hoses. These hoses can get damaged when mud and dirt build up inside the back wheels. When brake hoses are damaged, brake fluid can leak out. A brake fluid leak increases the risk of a crash.
“A brake fluid leak increases the risk of a crash,” Toyota stated in its announcement. This is especially important for Tacoma owners who take their trucks off-road, where mud and dirt are common.
The second issue affects about 41,000 cars and SUVs – the 2025 Toyota Camry, 2025 Lexus NX, and 2024-2025 Lexus RX models. The middle seatbelt in the back seat might have been damaged when it was made. If damaged, the seatbelt might not be strong enough to protect passengers in an accident.

What This Means for Toyota and Lexus Owners:
Toyota will fix both problems for free at their dealerships. For Tacoma owners, mechanics will put in stronger brake hoses that can better handle off-road conditions. For the other affected vehicles, dealers will check the back middle seatbelt and replace it if needed.
“Toyota dealers will inspect and replace the affected parts at no cost to customers,” the company confirmed. This process helps ensure every vehicle meets safety standards.
Toyota will send letters to owners starting in early April 2025. But owners don’t have to wait for a letter to check if their vehicle needs fixing. They can:
- Go to Toyota.com/recall or Lexus.com/recall
- Visit nhtsa.gov/recalls
- Enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to see if their car is affected
For immediate help, Toyota owners can call 1-800-331-4331, and Lexus owners can reach support at 1-800-255-3987.
This recall reflects the ongoing focus on vehicle safety and quality control in the automotive industry. When manufacturers identify potential safety issues, addressing them promptly helps protect drivers and passengers.
For drivers, these recalls mean paying attention to safety notices and getting the necessary repairs. Both brake systems and seatbelts are critical safety components that need to work as designed to protect vehicle occupants.
