On the auspicious day of September 25, 2023, our esteemed Union Minister Hardeep S Puri, with a heart full of pride and hope, flagged off the first Green Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus from Kartavya Path, New Delhi, embodying India’s unwavering commitment to a cleaner and greener future.
“With Hydrogen, we see India’s journey into Clean & Green Energy as nothing short of revolutionary,” declared Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, his voice resonating with the nation’s collective ambition to be a global hub for hydrogen production and export. The minister, with a glint of optimism in his eyes, elucidated that the fuel cell ingeniously utilizes Hydrogen and air to generate electricity, leaving behind only water as a by-product, epitomizing an environmentally harmonious mode of transportation.
Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, with a sparkle of foresight, unveiled that these buses, powered by the spirit of hydrogen cells, attain full charge in just a few minutes, emerging as a beacon of efficiency and a viable alternative to conventional fuel options. Our government, fueled by ambitious dreams for clean energy, envisions emerging fuels like hydrogen and bio-fuels to illuminate 25% of global incremental energy demand growth in the coming two decades.

Shri S M Vaidya, Chairman, IndianOil, with a visionary gaze, expressed that hydrogen stands as a game-changer in India’s noble quest to achieve Net-Zero emissions by the year 2070. Under this visionary program, 15 fuel cell buses will traverse specified routes in the Delhi NCR Region, establishing performance data under our diverse Indian operating conditions.
These buses, embodying the spirit of progress, are expected to traverse a cumulative 3 lakh kilometres, establishing the efficacy, efficiency, and sustainability of the complete value chain.
