Canberra’s beloved fireworks show, Skyfire 2025, is set to illuminate Lake Burley Griffin on Saturday, March 15. This free annual event, running since 1989, continues to be one of the capital’s most anticipated attractions, drawing over 120,000 people each year.

What to Expect

The 20-minute spectacle kicks off at 8:30 PM, featuring 40,000 pyrotechnic effects, 2,500 shells, and 25,000 shooting comets – all synchronized to music curated by event organizers Hit 104.7 and Mix 106.3.

Before the main event, attendees can enjoy a RAAF F-35A Lightning II fighter jet display at approximately 7:32 PM, adding another visual dimension to the evening’s entertainment.

Getting There

Transport Canberra will provide free bus and light rail services from 5:00 PM until the last service of the night. Additional shuttle buses will run from City and Woden interchanges, with increased light rail frequency until 11:00 PM.

“Almost a third of Canberrans will be at Skyfire so I really encourage everyone to make the most of free travel,” says Transport Canberra executive group manager Judith Sturman. “Passengers simply tap on and off as usual to register their free travel for Skyfire night.”

With extensive road closures around the lake from as early as 8:00 AM, public transport offers the most convenient option. Several bus routes, including Rapid 2, Rapid 6, and local services 57 and 58, will be diverted between 12:00 PM and 10:00 PM.
