GMC recently donated $500,000, the entire proceeds from the auctioning of its first-ever electric 2024 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 SUV, to a charity called Tread Lightly! that promotes responsible outdoor recreation and environmental stewardship. The highly anticipated all-electric Hummer EV Edition 1 SUV boasts a manufacturer-estimated 830 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque. The starting price for the SUV is $79,000, which is aligned with other high-end luxury EV SUVs. However, the higher trim levels cost more, with the top-of-the-line Edition One starting at $105,950. The Hummer EV SUV qualifies for a $7,500 federal tax credit as an all-electric vehicle, and some states offer further incentives for electric vehicle buyers. Despite reservations for the 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV being closed, it will be delivered to the fortunate few by Q1 2023.
The donation to Tread Lightly! is part of GMC’s efforts to introduce a new, environmentally conscious image to the Hummer nameplate. Tread Lightly! offers educational programs such as the Restoration for Recreation program, biodiversity and wildlife conservation, and a project with the US Forest Service to develop designated routes for motor vehicle use. The donation from GMC’s auction will help support trail restoration projects and children’s educational materials.
The 2024 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 SUV’s features include Four-Wheel Steering and standard CrabWalk capabilities that make the spacious SUV agile and nimble. Other features include a new all-wheel-drive system and the latest Apple/Android-compatible infotainment system. Higher trim levels offer extended range battery packs and luxury features like heated and ventilated seats.
Although the initial reservations for the Hummer EV SUV and Pickup styles closed after an overwhelming response, Duncan Aldred, Global Vice President of Buick and GMC, believes the SUV will eventually marginally outsell the Pickup, projecting 60 percent of sales for the SUV and 40 percent for the Pickup. GMC is no longer taking reservations for either body style, with around 90,000 reservations for both the Pickup and SUV already placed.
