A popular breakfast staple is being pulled from store shelves in 11 states. Quaker Oats is recalling its Pearl Milling Company Original Pancake & Waffle Mix because it contains milk that isn’t listed on the label.
The recall started on January 14, 2025, after a retail partner alerted Quaker Oats about undeclared milk in the mix. This matters because milk can cause severe allergic reactions in some people. The pancake mix comes in a 2-pound box (32 ounces) and might have been in stores since November 18, 2024.
If you have this mix at home, look for these details:
- UPC number: 30000 65040
- “Best By” date: September 13, 2025
- Look for this date on the box top
The mix was sold in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, Utah, and Wisconsin.
The FDA explains why this recall is crucial: “Food allergies occur when the body’s immune system reacts to certain proteins in food.” For people with milk allergies, reactions can range from hives to respiratory problems and shock that need immediate medical help.
While no one has reported getting sick from the mix yet, Quaker Oats isn’t taking chances. “If consumers have an allergy or sensitivity to milk, they should not consume the product and discard it immediately,” the company stated.
