Nestlé has recalled multiple batches of Frosted Shreddies after finding hard sugar lumps in the popular breakfast cereal. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) confirmed on February 28, 2025, that these lumps pose a significant choking hazard, prompting an immediate nationwide recall.

The recall affects 14 specific batches, including standard 500g boxes and smaller 40g portions found in variety packs. Cereal Partners UK and Ireland is recalling the product as stated in the Food Standards Agency notice.

“This makes the product unsafe to eat and may present a choking hazard,” stated the FSA in its official recall notice.

The affected products include 500g boxes with best-before dates of July 2025 and smaller 40g boxes from Nestlé Box Bowl Mixed Cereals packs with expiration dates in June and July 2025. The specific batch codes can be found printed on the top of each package.

Consumers who have purchased the affected cereal should not consume it under any circumstances. Instead, they can return it to the store of purchase for a full refund or contact Nestlé directly after taking a photo of the batch code.

“We take the quality and safety of our products very seriously,” Nestlé stated in its recall announcement. “As a precautionary measure, Cereal Partners UK and Ireland has initiated a voluntary recall of Nestlé Frosted Shreddies.”

The company emphasized that no other Shreddies varieties or Nestlé breakfast cereals are affected by this recall.

Food safety recalls are typically issued when products could pose health risks to consumers. In this case, the hard sugar formations create a choking hazard that would affect anyone consuming the product.

The FSA explained that when food safety concerns arise, products may be “withdrawn” from shelves or “recalled,” requiring consumers to return products already purchased. For Frosted Shreddies, the full recall process has been implemented due to the serious nature of the choking risk.

Nestlé apologized for the inconvenience, stating: “Safety and quality is our first priority.”
