Three new measles cases in Melbourne have health officials expanding their public health response. These latest cases, detected in mid-January 2025, raise Victoria’s 12-month total to 20 infections.
“Vaccination is the most effective way to protect against measles. Ensure you and your family are vaccinated before travelling overseas,” says Dr. Tarun Weeramanthri, Victoria’s Chief Health Officer. The warning comes as Vietnam reports over 38,000 suspected cases and 13 deaths in 2024, a dramatic rise from previous reports.
People visiting common shopping areas and cafes in Melbourne might have been exposed to the virus. New exposure sites include popular spots like Secondipity Roasters in Collingwood, Coles Brighton, and The Hives Shopping Centre in Abbotsford between January 13-16, 2025.
