International Women’s Day is being celebrated on Saturday, the Mar 8, 2025. Many women have risen in life all over the world. Sunita Williams is an astronaut now revolving round the Earth. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is an important international leader.
But the most remarkable woman to come to forefront is AFD (Alternative for Germany) party leader of Germany. Alice Weidel, the leader of far-right party, has garnered 20% of votes in the recent German Parliamentary election. She has just about a dozen years of public life experience. She is the candidate for chancellorship (Prime Ministership) from her party.
Weidel is a highly educated lady. She is young and enterprising. She is the most influential politician in Germany today. She has risen to the highest post in her party within eight years of her joining the AFD.
She is remarkable in other aspects too. She has married another lady of Sri Lankan origin. She is looking after two children. She also supports traditional family values. All these traits in her character have made her quite unique.
She is leading a party which does not approve her same-gender relationship. She joined the AFD through a process of ‘bail out’. But she soon advocated her opposition to immigrants and support for natives in politics. She is in favour of closing the borders of Germany to immigrants.

Her policy is similar to MAGA (Make America Great Again) of President Trump of USA. That is why Elon Musk and US Vice President JD Vance have supported Weidel’s AFD. The intelligence agencies are keeping a watch on her as she raised Nazi slogan during her election rally.
It is also said that she is the granddaughter of a judge appointed by Hitler. Earlier Chancellor Angela Merkel successfully led Germany in leadership of Europe. Weidel too is ambitious to be the Chancellor of Germany.
It will not be a wonder if she is elected to the Chancellorship of Germany as she has shown leadership qualities of highest order. If this does not happen now, surely it will be in 2029.

In short, while celebrating International Women’s Day on Mar 8, it will be worthwhile to note the remarkable rise of Alice Weidel, the leader of AFD (Alternative for Germany) party. Our prayers are for safe return of Sunita Williams from the space.
Let us not forget the leadership of Europe by Ursula von der Leyen on the IWD (International Women’s Day). The 21st century belongs to women who constitute half of humanity.
