A packaging mix-up at Kayco has triggered a nationwide recall of Glicks Dark Chocolate Conettos after the company discovered some packages contained milk chocolate products instead of dark chocolate. The recall, announced on February 21, 2025, specifically affects products with the lot code 02092024.

The issue emerged when Kayco’s Quality Control Department found that bags labeled as dark chocolate contained milk chocolate conettos, posing a serious health risk to consumers with milk allergies. The affected products were sold across the United States, with primary distribution in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, between October 13, 2024, and February 14, 2025. The products were available both in stores and through Amazon.com.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume these products,” Kayco stated in their official announcement.

The specific product details include:

Product: Glicks Dark Chocolate Conettos (2.47 oz)

UPC Code: 840762044535 (Case UPC: 10840762044549)

Lot Code: 02092024

Kayco has taken immediate action by notifying retailers to inspect their inventory and remove affected products from shelves. While no illnesses have been reported, the company is working with the Food and Drug Administration to manage the recall process.

The timing of this recall underscores the critical importance of accurate food labeling. Undeclared allergens in food products can have severe consequences, particularly for individuals with known allergies who rely on package labeling to make safe food choices.

Consumers who purchased Glicks Dark Chocolate Conettos should check the lot code on their packages. The company is offering refunds or credit for returned products. Those with questions can contact Kayco’s customer service at 718-369-4600 during business hours (9 AM to 5 PM Eastern Time) or email customercare@kayco.com.

The recall reflects broader food safety concerns regarding allergen labeling accuracy. When quality control processes catch these issues, it helps prevent potential health risks to consumers. The prompt recall action also highlights the importance of established food safety protocols in protecting consumer health.

For consumers with milk allergies, this incident serves as a reminder to always check product labels carefully, even for familiar items. It also emphasizes the value of keeping track of lot codes on purchased food items, which can be crucial for identifying affected products during recalls.
