One of the most beautiful train routes in North America is the much-anticipated California Zephyr. A distance of 2,437 miles on a 51-hour, 20-minute trip between Chicago and the San Francisco Bay Area is covered by the train.

The route across California is through the Rocky Mountains and Sierra Nevada Mountain ranges. Major cities like Chicago, Omaha, Denver, Salt Lake City, and Reno are connected by the train route. While stopping at the Bay Area stop on the East Bay in Emeryville, the train connects both Oakland and San Francisco and is available on the Thruway bus service.

One of the only passenger train operators in the USA, Amtrak, has announced its first plans to upgrade its overnight trains for the first time in 40 years. The railway system of Europe is undergoing a renaissance, with revitalized night train services and bigger incentives to take the train instead of flying.

Plenty of stunning viewpoints are offered on the California Zephyr, which passes through hand-built railroads between Reno and Sacramento. The name California Zephyr dates back to the train that ran from 1940 to 1970. Various ideas for modern replacement railcards for a few of Amtrak’s long-distance routes have been submitted by 10 companies.

Another impressive train route that hugs the coast from an elevated perch is the Coast Straight from Seattle to Los Angeles. A variety of accommodations aboard the California Zephyr can be chosen by travelers, from coach seats to bedroom suites.

With different levels of space and amenities, five types of Superliner rooms are available across two levels. The smallest accommodation is the roomette, with two seats by day and an upper and lower bed at night, and access to a shared restroom and shower in the car.

With a sofa and separate chair that turn into an upper and lower bed at night, as well as an in-room sink, restroom, and shower, the bedroom has twice as much space as the roomette. Offering everything in the standard size is the bedroom suite with two bedrooms attached.

Designed for 2 adults and 2 children, the Family Room has seating for 4 during the day and 2 upper beds and 2 lower beds at night, plus a private restroom and shower. The accessible bedroom, which can sleep two adults in an upper and lower bed, can be booked by passengers with disabilities.

Amtrak’s upgrade and opening of new routes will be funded by the $1.2 trillion federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, signed into law in 2021. The cities that have lost their train connections are expected to be reconnected with the funding. The diversity of scenery and cities is taken in by the California Zephyr and other impressive train routes, making the US a beautifully curious place.
