Chhath Puja Is a hindu festival celebrated in North india. But this year the celebrations went from surreal to outright unhealthy.



The unwavering and blinding faith of devotees is concerning. This hazardous foam floating on the Yamuna river is caused by increased ammonia levels and high phosphate content. That is caused by discharge of industrial pollutants including detergents into the river.

Social activists said that the thick layer of toxic foam is a result of chemical waste used to dye denims. It is being dumped by illegal jeans-making units setup close to the river banks.
