A widespread recall of liquid egg products is underway after Cargill Kitchen Solutions discovered contamination with sodium hypochlorite, a cleaning solution. The Michigan-based company is recalling approximately 212,268 pounds of liquid egg products produced on March 12 and 13, 2025.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the recall on March 28 after receiving a tip about potential contamination. Following an investigation and assessment of the cleaning solution’s contents, FSIS scientists classified it as a Class III recall, meaning the product poses negligible health risks.
“FSIS does not expect any adverse health effects for Class III recalled products,” the agency stated. However, they still recommend that anyone concerned about illness should contact a healthcare provider.
The affected products include several varieties of Egg Beaters and Bob Evans branded liquid egg substitutes. All recalled products bear the establishment number “G1804” ink-jetted on the carton. While the products were shipped to distributors in Ohio and Texas and for foodservice use in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, and Iowa, FSIS notes there is a possibility the products were distributed nationwide.
