Recently, BMW (China) Automotive Trading Co., Ltd. filed a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulation in accordance with the ‘Regulations on the Management of Recalls of Defective Automobile Products,’ the ‘Implementation Measures for the Regulations on the Management of Recalls of Defective Automobile Products,’ and the ‘Regulations on the Recall of Motor Vehicle Emissions.’ They have decided to recall the following vehicles starting from today. BMW M BMW X5 M 2023 X5 M Thunder Edition.

Recall batches include:

  • A total of 424 imported X5 M vehicles produced from March 16, 2023, to February 29, 2024;
  • A total of 154 imported X6 M vehicles produced from March 23, 2023, to February 27, 2024;
  • A total of 202 imported X7 vehicles produced from August 22, 2022, to January 25, 2024;
  • A total of 163 imported XM vehicles produced from June 6, 2022, to January 12, 2024;
  • A total of 15 imported XM Label vehicles produced from August 3, 2023, to September 21, 2023.

Reason for recall: Some vehicles within the scope of this recall may experience a software issue with the variable valve lift function. When the onboard diagnostic system (OBD) detects a malfunction in the variable valve lift function, the software program may freeze, causing the OBD malfunction indicator light not to illuminate as required. This could lead to the intake valve operating at maximum lift, resulting in increased emissions and posing an unreasonable emission risk.

Solution: “BMW (China) Automotive Trading Co., Ltd. will upgrade the software for vehicles within the recall scope free of charge to eliminate the risk of unreasonable emissions.”
