Blue Ridge Beef is recalling its raw kitten food due to a contamination of Salmonella. The company is taking back 1,350 pounds of Kitten Mix food after a pet got sick from eating it.
The recalled food was sold between July 18 and July 26, 2024, in six states: Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York. To check if you have the affected food, look for:
- Product name: Blue Ridge Beef Kitten Mix (2-pound packages)
- UPC number: 8542980013436
- Lot number: N25-0716 (found on the clips at package ends)
Health officials found the problem after testing the food in Massachusetts. A pet owner reported their animal got sick, leading to the tests that confirmed Salmonella was present.
Both pets and people can get sick from this contaminated food. In pets, watch for:
- Less energy than usual
- Not wanting to eat
- Fever
- Stomach pain
- Throwing up
- Diarrhea that may contain blood
