American Airlines has launched a pilot program testing new boarding technology at three U.S. airports, aiming to address the persistent issue of passengers attempting to board the aircraft before their assigned groups.
The technology produces an audible alert when passengers try to board ahead of their designated time, prompting gate agents to redirect them to wait for their correct boarding group. The system integrates directly with boarding pass scanners, displaying messages to help agents manage the process efficiently.
“We are in the early phase of testing new technology used during the boarding process,” an American Airlines representative told ABC News, “The new technology is designed to ensure customers receive the benefits of priority boarding with ease and helps improve the boarding experience by providing greater visibility into boarding progress for our team.”
The testing phase includes three strategic locations: Albuquerque International Sunport, Tucson International Airport, and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. Early results have proven favorable, according to airline officials.
