Acura is reviving its RSX name for a new electric SUV launching in 2026. The vehicle showcases Honda’s push into electric cars with new technology and local manufacturing.

The RSX takes a different path from its predecessor. While the original RSX was a small sports car, the new version is an electric SUV with a sporty design. The test vehicles now on roads wear special camouflage that hints at its sleek shape while keeping final details hidden.

Mike Langel, who leads Acura’s national sales, points to the RSX’s blend of past and future: “The RSX returns with a coupe-like silhouette that represents a forward-looking approach to fun-to-drive performance.”

At the heart of this launch is Honda’s new electric car factory in Ohio. This facility breaks new ground by building gas, hybrid, and electric cars on one production line. A key advance is its use of six massive casting machines that create large battery casings in a single piece – something Honda hasn’t done before.

“We’re completely reimagining our approach to manufacturing,” explains Mike Fischer, who leads Honda’s North American electric vehicle project. “This sets our global standard for electric car production.”

The RSX brings new technology inside the car too. It will launch with Honda’s ASIMO operating system, unveiled at CES 2025. This system includes a humanlike voice companion and advanced driving features, marking a significant step in car technology.

Acura’s current electric SUV, the ZDX, sold 7,391 units in 2024. The RSX will use Honda’s own electric car platform instead of technology from General Motors like the ZDX does. The RSX will be smaller than the ZDX, adding a new option to Acura’s electric vehicle lineup.

The Ohio factory represents a $4.4 billion partnership between Honda and battery maker LG Chem. Production starts in late 2025, with the first customer deliveries in early 2026.

The RSX represents important developments in electric vehicle manufacturing: domestic production, innovative assembly methods, and new automotive technology. The RSX joins Acura’s current lineup of the ADX, RDX, MDX, TLX, and Integra, maintaining the brand’s commitment to North American manufacturing.
