Sanlorenzo, an Italian-based company, launched a new 164-foot superyacht from a brand new series dubbed 50 Steel. The impressive specification of an innovative green methanol fuel cell system is a striking feature. Subsequently, during an exclusive event on Sunday at La Spezia, an inauguration took place for the 50-steel yacht by anointing its moniker, christened Almax. Additionally, it will be the first yacht in the world to use methanol fuel cells to have emissions-free power for the hotel load.
Sanlorenzo Development, in partnership with Siemens Energy, has created a modular reformer fuel cell system. Transforming biomethanol, also known as green methanol, into hydrogen and then into clean electrical energy. This innovative system eliminates the need to store hydrogen on board. Consequentially, the setup can generate up to 100 kW with the engines and diesel generators turned off. Sanlorenzo estimates the system will cover about 90 percent of the typical usage time of a superyacht with zero emissions.
