We have become accustomed in recent times to new models being launched on the market with a limited range, with more options being added in the following months. This is exactly what has happened with the Volkswagen ID.7, which arrived in our market last year with a combination of a 210 kW (286 hp) electric motor and a 77 kWh (useful capacity) battery. Now, the news is that the sedan is incorporating a much more capable battery, maintaining the same motor for the Pro S and also pairing it with the sporty GTX variant.

During its presentation, it was mentioned that the Volkswagen ID.7 would become the king of range within the electric lineup created by the German manufacturer. After all, it had all the right characteristics, boasting a generous length (4.96 m) that could house a large battery, along with a body type that has the best aerodynamics. While the market greatly favors SUVs, they can never beat a sedan in efficiency.

As mentioned before, until now, the ID.7 was marketed in our country with a single 77 kWh battery, providing a certified range between 616 and 620 kilometers (depending on the chosen finish), which already allowed for long trips without so many concerns about stopping to charge. This battery can be charged with alternating current at 11 kW (8 hours to reach 100%) or at 175 kW with direct current (25 minutes to reach 80%).

Now, the ID.7 debuts a new 86 kWh battery, again in useful capacity, which boosts its range to 709 kilometers. This way, one could complete the distance from Madrid to Tarifa without stopping, to use an example of a distant point in Spanish geography. We have not yet been informed of the charging power in alternating current, which could be the same as previously indicated, but we do know that it reaches 200 kW in direct current, taking only one more minute than the previous battery to recharge to 80%. It will also be available for the ID.7 Tourer, but in this case, its range is limited to 690 kilometers.

This new 86 kWh battery will be available for the Pro S versions of the ID.7, which in Germany have already been put on sale for 58,985 euros (800 euros more if you opt for the Tourer). However, considering that in Spain the Pro “Max” currently costs 61,020 euros, it is normal for it to be priced above that.

 The ID.7 GTX: The Most Powerful Electric

When it hits the market, the ID.7 GTX will become the most powerful electric vehicle available in this specific Volkswagen range. To achieve this milestone, the 210 kW (286 hp) rear axle motor of the Pro and Pro S versions is paired with another 80 kW (109 hp) motor on the front axle to achieve both all-wheel drive and a combined power output of 250 kW (340 hp).

As expected, this increase results in enhanced performance for the ID.7 GTX. In terms of acceleration, it can reach 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds (one-tenth more in the Tourer), whereas the Pro did so in 6.5 seconds. Meanwhile, its top speed has been electronically limited to 180 km/h.

On the other hand, this GTX benefits from the new 86 kWh battery mentioned earlier. However, with much more power and an additional motor to feed, its range cannot be as good, remaining at 595 kilometers or ten less if opting for the Tourer body.

The price of the ID.7 GTX does not seem very high compared to the Pro S, considering the added technical and aesthetic features. Specifically, in Germany, it starts at 63,155 euros (800 euros more for the Tourer), making the difference between the two 4,170 euros.

But let’s focus on the engines to compare with the new models. The electric motor of the previous ID.7 version developed a total power of 210 kW (286 hp). The ID.7 Pro, on the other hand, has a 77 kWh battery, and in the case of the ID.7 Pro S version, it has an 85 kWh battery. Finally, highlighting its electric range, between 603 and 620 kilometers (depending on the version).

Volkswagen has now taken a significant step in its electrification strategy with the introduction of the new ID.7 models. The standout among them is the ID.7 GTX3, an all-wheel-drive fastback with 250 kW (340 hp) of power.

This vehicle has already made its global debut, and just two days later, on June 6, pre-sales begin in Germany with a base price of 63,155 euros. Along with the ID.7 GTX, pre-sales will also begin for the ID.7 GTX Tourer 4 (63,955 euros), ID.7 Pro S2 (58,985 euros), and ID.7 Tourer Pro S5 (59,785 euros), which were previously presented in March. All these models are equipped with an 86 kWh battery, providing a perfect balance between power and efficiency.

With its dual-motor all-wheel drive and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds, this model redefines the performance standard in its category. Additionally, it offers a WLTP range of up to 595 km, and its battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 26 minutes at fast DC charging stations, with a charging capacity of up to 200 kW.

In the case of the ID.7 GTX Tourer, sharing the same technology, it stands out for its greater cargo capacity, with up to 605 liters of trunk space compared to the 532 liters of the fastback. Despite its additional dimensions, it maintains an acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds and a range of up to 585 km.

The ID.7 GTX stands out not only for its performance but also for its design and luxury equipment. It comes with 20-inch Skagen alloy wheels, IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights, and GTX badges on the front and rear. The interior also features several innovations, including new heated seats with red stitching, a multifunction steering wheel with red details, and customizable ambient lighting with up to 30 colors. Additionally, it includes cutting-edge technology such as wireless App-Connect, augmented reality head-up display, voice assistant with integrated ChatGPT, and Keyless Access for keyless entry and start.
