Microsoft has announced significant efforts to reduce carbon emissions from Xbox gaming consoles over a 3-year period (FY 2020 - FY 2023).

These innovative efforts, including greening game code and introducing energy-saving modes, have reduced over 1.2 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
In January 2023, a new "Shutdown" feature was added to Xbox gaming consoles to further reduce energy consumption.
Another feature focused on reducing the carbon footprint, called "Carbon Aware," was also introduced to Xbox users.
The "Xbox Sustainability Toolkit," released by Microsoft in March 2023, is an initiative aimed at helping game developers better understand energy consumption on the Xbox platform.
The "Xbox Sustainability Toolkit" has been adopted by companies like Activision to develop popular games with a focus on energy efficiency.
Microsoft has set ambitious goals to reduce its overall environmental impact by 2030.
