On October 27, 2023, Ukraine’s State Service for Emergency Situations showcased a game-changer in demining tech: a soil preparation vehicle, straight out of Kharkiv’s tech hubs. This isn’t just a machine; it’s a testament to Ukrainian innovation and the relentless spirit of its engineers.

Crafted by Kharkiv’s finest, this vehicle is Ukraine’s first homegrown, certified demining equipment. Priced at 5.6 million hryvnias, it’s a blend of user-centric design and cutting-edge tech. The remote-control feature, with a range of 300 meters, ensures sappers can operate safely from a distance. Plus, its design ensures easy repairs, a must-have in the high-risk demining sector.

Oleg Sinegubov, Chairman of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, handed over this tech marvel to the sappers. He highlighted its role in Ukraine‘s broader demining mission. To put things into perspective, the SESU has already neutralized a whopping 447,841 explosive hazards and surveyed over 100,000 hectares. With explosive remnants scattered across regions like Kharkiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, and Donetsk, this machine’s arrival is right on cue.

During its four-month testing phase, this beast neutralized over 300 anti-personnel mines. Built on a Kharkiv-made tracked tractor chassis, it’s versatile and rugged. Even if it hits an anti-tank mine, it’s designed for quick fixes.

Governor Oleh Syniehubov dropped a noteworthy quote, “This is Kharkiv’s ninth mine clearance vehicle, but our first local production.” Its specs? Impressive! It can neutralize 95% of all mines at speeds of 3-4 km/h.

As this tech gears up for field action, training is top priority. Once the operators are up to speed, it’ll tackle Kharkiv’s mine zones. And there’s more good news: another unit, bankrolled by the Kharkiv regional budget, is set to roll out by November.
