The world of hypercars is witnessing a paradigm shift, and leading the charge is the legendary Italian automotive design house, Automobili Pininfarina. With its newest creation, the Pininfarina’s B95 EV hypercar, the company is setting new benchmarks in design, performance, and sustainability.

The Legacy Behind the B95
Celebrating 95 Years of Excellence

Automobili Pininfarina, a subsidiary of Mahindra Automotive, unveiled the B95 at the iconic Monterey Car Week in California. This launch is not just about introducing another hypercar; it’s a tribute to Pininfarina’s rich legacy as the company approaches its 95th anniversary in 2025. The “B” in B95 stands for Barchetta, an Italian term meaning “little boat”, reflecting the car’s unique open-top design without a traditional roof or windshield.

Design: A Fusion of Vintage and Modern
Inspired by the PURA Vision Concept

The B95 is not just a car; it’s a piece of art. Its design draws inspiration from the PURA Vision concept, an all-electric SUV previously designed by Pininfarina. The hypercar’s front end boasts an aggressive bumper, a distinctive air dam, and sleek all-LED headlights. The absence of a traditional roof and windshield gives it a raw, roadster feel, reminiscent of classic Italian sports cars.

“Our PURA design philosophy has purity at its heart, a hallmark of the timeless designs of iconic vehicles from Pininfarina’s past. The Barchetta silhouette is instantly recognisable, but it was our job to make it beautiful. The mixture of classic proportions and exquisite detailing have allowed us to create something truly special. We’re allowing customers to drive a dream with B95 – something that defines the brand moving forward.”

However, the Pininfarina’s B95 isn’t stuck in the past. It introduces the world’s first electronically adjustable aero screens, inspired by vintage fighter planes. These screens, designed in-house, are a testament to Pininfarina’s commitment to innovation.

Performance: Power Meets Sustainability
Harnessing the Power of Electrification

The B95 is not just about looks; it’s a beast under the hood. Powered by the same drivetrain as the Pininfarina Battista, it boasts four electric motors, one at each wheel, ensuring all-wheel-drive capability. With a staggering 1900 PS of power, the B95 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 2 seconds.

But what truly sets it apart is its commitment to sustainability. The 120 kWh battery pack can be charged from 20% to 80% in just 25 minutes, making it one of the fastest-charging hypercars on the market. Moreover, the use of sustainable materials, like tan-colored leather and the iconic Houndstooth fabric, underscores Pininfarina’s vision for a greener future.

Interior: A Blend of Tradition and Modernity
Craftsmanship Meets Innovation

Step inside the B95, and you’re transported to a world where vintage charm meets modern luxury. The dual-tone interior, featuring sustainable tan leather and black-anodized buttons, exudes elegance. The laser-engraved aluminum details and carbon fiber elements add a touch of modernity.

A Critical Look: Is the B95 the Future?

While the B95 is undoubtedly a marvel of engineering and design, it also raises some pragmatic concerns. The hypercar market is niche, and with a price tag of €4.4 million, the B95 caters to a select few. Moreover, the limited production of just 10 units might make it a collector’s item rather than a vehicle that paves the way for broader electric adoption.

“This is the most exciting chapter of the Automobili Pininfarina story so far – we’re taking another big step forward. The introduction of the B95 is the third of three essential building blocks this summer for our brand. First, we introduced the Battista Edizione Nino Farina, an exclusive celebration of Pininfarina’s racing son – also the first Formula 1 World Champion.”

However, the B95 is more than just a car; it’s a statement. It showcases what’s possible when tradition meets innovation. As the world grapples with climate change and sustainability challenges, the B95 serves as a beacon, highlighting the role of electric vehicles in shaping a greener future.

The Road Ahead

The B95 is a testament to Automobili Pininfarina’s legacy and its vision for the future. As the world stands on the cusp of an electric revolution, the B95 serves as a reminder of the limitless possibilities that lie ahead. It’s not just a car; it’s a dream, a vision, and most importantly, a beacon of hope.
