Redefining urban commuting, the Italian electric mobility company ToMove has unveiled the Tom, an innovative, environmentally friendly, and foldable electric scooter. Collaboratively crafted by Reinova and acclaimed designer Andrea Strippoli, this one-of-a-kind vehicle blends cutting-edge technology with sustainability, offering a practical and green alternative to traditional transportation.

Pioneering Sustainable Design

The heart of the Tom lies in its commitment to minimizing environmental footprint. It is majorly composed of renewable and recyclable materials, with less than 10% of the scooter made of plastic. The side panels, charmingly constructed from bamboo, and an aluminum frame demonstrate a perfect balance of eco-consciousness and sturdy design, challenging the norm of heavy plastic reliance in the automotive industry.

High-Performance and Eco-Friendly Propulsion

The Tom boasts a 500-watt rear hub motor that propels the scooter to a maximum speed of 43 km/h (27 mph), with a torque output of 30 Nm (22 lb-ft). The power source is a 750-Wh lithium battery, which, on a three-hour charge, delivers an impressive range of 50 km (31 miles). This small but mighty scooter is not just for commuting; the battery can serve as a portable power bank for charging mobile devices, adding a layer of convenience for modern urban dwellers.

Compact Design for Urban Spaces

Space constraint is an acute concern for city inhabitants. In response, the Tom’s designers have integrated a quick, seven-second folding feature. Once folded, the 20-kg (44 lb) scooter can be easily wheeled along on a set of integrated caster wheels. Its compact form, paired with its manageable weight and impressive capacity of 120 kg (265 lb), makes it a feasible choice for the daily commuter navigating busy city streets.

Advanced Tech Meets User-Friendly Interface

The Tom is a treasure trove of smart features. It offers hydraulic disc brakes, a coil-spring suspension fork, and a comprehensive lighting system inclusive of handlebar-end turn indicators. An accompanying app serves as a digital companion, offering location tracking, movement alerts, and battery level checks to provide the rider with peace of mind.

The Financial Landscape

While the Tom is not the most affordable option on the market at €1,869 (about US$2,000) for a Kickstarter pledge, the unique design and sustainable features arguably justify the cost. The retail price is expected to be around $2,999, pointing to the rising demand for high-quality, sustainable urban mobility solutions.

Conclusion: Tom – A Futuristic Urban Mobility Solution

The ToMove Tom is not just an e-scooter; it’s a testament to innovative and sustainable design that could set a new standard for urban transportation. It promises to not only revolutionize our daily commutes but also play a pivotal role in mitigating environmental impact, thus paving the way for a more sustainable future.
