Pench National Park in Madhya Pradesh is renowned for its Bengal tiger population and diverse wildlife. Established in 1979, the park covers 756 square kilometers of teak and sal forests. The park sits along the Pench River providing water sources for wildlife year-round. Conservation efforts include anti-poaching patrols and habitat restoration through the Project Tiger program launched by the Government of India in 1973 to protect tigers and their prey base.
The Bengal tiger population in Pench National Park has shown gradual recovery due to sustained conservation efforts and anti-poaching initiatives. Camera trap surveys conducted by the Madhya Pradesh forest department estimate approximately 32 to 38 tigers currently inhabit the reserved forest area spanning across the Satpura hill ranges. Tourists can book safari permits at the park entry point and explore the buffer zones on guided jeep safaris during early morning hours when tigers are most active and visible in the cool weather. Local guides from nearby villages share traditional knowledge about tiger behavior and tracking techniques passed down through generations of forest workers and tribal communities who have coexisted with wildlife for centuries.
