ID.7, its new electric saloon, has been revealed by Volkswagen. It is aimed at 435 miles of range on a single charge in its Pro S trim. With an 86 kWh battery & a drag efficiency of 0.23, ID.7, it can be easily compared with even the standard Pro variant, which manages 382 miles of range from a 77 kWh battery. With a largely closed-off front end & funky LED lighting at the back, the actual design of the ID.7 is not as impressive as its range.
The brand’s new flagship electric sedan, ID.7, will be available in Europe & China this fall & North America in 2024 and just might save sedans.. Pro & Pro S are two trims of the ID.7, both with an electric motor producing 282 horsepower (210 kilowatts). The new AP550 electric motor from VW for the MEB platform will power the ID.7 when it arrives in Europe & China later this year.
Comparable to the Mercedes-Benz EQE electric sedan, the ID.7 is 195.3 inches (4,961 mm) long & has a 116.8 inch (2,966 mm) wheelbase. The body of ID.7 has a drag coefficient as low as 0.23. The feature inside ID.7 is an augmented reality head-up display that can display information like road lane markings & speed limits.
Information is made by the augmented reality to appear at different distances from the driver, & controls on the steering wheel allow for adjusting information on the HUD. It’s hoped by VW that the ID.7 will help rescue the sedan from the dustbin of vehicle history. The ID.7 is expected to start sales in China later this year & the US in 2024, though its cost is still unknown.
The new VW vehicle has a roomy interior, impressive aerodynamics, & a healthy amount of range. The ID.7 is expected to have a range of 700 km (435 miles) based on the WLTP standard from an 86 kWh battery. A range of 615 km (382 miles) is expected to be given to the ID.7 by the smaller 77 kwh battery.
A 15 inch infotainment system & illuminated touch sliders for adjusting temperature & audio volume are other features of the ID.7. The TA (Travel Assist) system includes adaptive cruise control & assisted lane changing, which can detect speed limits & adjust the vehicle’s velocity. The vehicle has the most advanced AC system from VW since the Phaeton, with vents that can move vertically & horizontally.
The AC system responds to voice commands, such as directing warm air to the driver’s fingers & activating the steering wheel heater. The new VW vehicle can take up to 170 kw of fast charging, more than the ID.4 crossover SUV. The ID.7’s actual powertrain has not been revealed, despite the recent reveal of VW’s new AP550 electric motor. A battery pack with a gross capacity of 91 kWh (86 kWh net) that offers an estimated 435 miles (700 km) of driving distance adorns the Pro S trim of the ID.7.
The aim of the ID.7 is to compete with the Tesla Model 3, but the cost of the ID.7 will be a crucial factor in determining its success. It’s hoped by VW that the ID.7 will help revive the popularity of sedans in the EV market.
