Ram unveiled their new electric vehicles at the New York International Auto Show. Ram’s 1500 REV is the automaker’s first battery-electric light-duty pickup truck. The truck has a range of up to 500 miles per charge on the optional 229-kilowatt battery, can tow up to 14,000 pounds, and can carry up to 2,700 pounds of load. The standard 168-kilowatt battery pack will deliver a range of 350 miles. With the fast charger, Ram’s REV can restore up to 110 miles of range in about 10 minutes.
The truck is capable of powering worksite utility tools or even a home during an outage. The REV’s air suspension is a five-way adjustable system and has five different modes. The REV’s models are available with big wheels and hands-free active driving assist technology. The REV boasts a 10.25-inch screen for the front passenger and a 14.5-inch infotainment system. Users can choose to connect either of the two large infotainment screens that run on Ram’s Uconnect 5.
The REV has a configurable head-up display that has 10 inches of customization. The truck has a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster that shows a charging schedule. Ram 1500 REV owners will also be able to use their smartphones as their keys. The Klipsch Reference Premiere audio system is not available in any other Ram 1500 truck.
The REV won’t be available in showrooms until the fourth quarter of 2024, like the Rivian R1T and Ford’s F-150 Lightning. The parent company, Stellantis, claims that the truck will be built in the U.S., but it hasn’t disclosed which factory. The Ram REV would most probably qualify for a $7,500 U.S. electric vehicle tax credit.
Stellantis even unveiled its 2024 model plug-in hybrid electric Jeep Wrangler, and the company plans to have 50% of Jeep brand sales in the U.S. with battery-electric by 2030. By 2030, Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares has set ambitious targets to reduce emissions by half, including having 100% of car sales in Europe and 50% of car and light-duty truck sales in the U.S. be electric vehicles by the end of the decade.
