Auckland Zoo welcomes kangaroos from Australia

A mob of forester kangaroos has made the journey across the Tasman Sea, arriving at Auckland Zoo just before Anzac Day celebrations.

These marsupials, a subspecies of the eastern grey kangaroo, are now settling into their new home in the zoo's Australia Bush Track exhibit.

A section of the Australia Bush Track has been temporarily closed while the kangaroos adjust to their new surroundings under expert care.

The animal experiences team is closely monitoring the newcomers as they become accustomed to their habitat, caregivers, and neighboring species.

"It's still early days for the 'roos to get to know their new surroundings and our kaimahi," Auckland Zoo stated in a recent announcement.

The exhibit already houses other Australian natives including emus, brolgas, and Cunningham's skinks, creating a diverse Australian wildlife experience.

Zoo officials can't guarantee sightings during this early adjustment period and encourage visitors to check social media for viewing updates.

While waiting for the kangaroos to become fully visible, visitors can still enjoy the other Australian species throughout the remainder of the exhibit.
