Columbus Zoo's Cheetah Kvamme Dies at 10

On March 28, 2025, the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium announced the death of Kvamme, a 10-year-old cheetah, due to pneumonia

Kvamme was born in 2014 and came from Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium with his sister after his mother became sick and could not offer milk to them

The specialised animal care team gave round-the-clock hand-rearing protocols to Kvamme and his sister, which was successful despite the challenges faced by them due to the absence of maternal care.

The zoo was highly impressed that his spirit remained bright throughout his medical treatment, and his memories with the zoo employees will be there forever.

Visitors at the zoo were attracted by his signature medical shirt, and while putting it on, he helped the keepers by lifting one foot at a time, showing remarkable cognitive ability.
