FPT Industrial, the powertrain brand of Iveco Group, has unveiled the world’s first hydrogen-powered snow groomer in collaboration with PRINOTH. The LEITWOLF h2MOTION is equipped with the new FPT XC13 hydrogen version, 13-liter, six-cylinder engine that delivers 460 horsepower (338 kW) and 2,000 Nm of torque. The new engine is the first multi-fuel single-base engine that offers component standardization and easy integration into the final product. The hydrogen fuel is stored in five tanks mounted on the back of the machine for an estimated running time of more than three hours.
The World’s First Hydrogen-Powered Snow Groomer
PRINOTH is a leading producer of snow groomers and tracked vehicles that have a strong commitment to sustainability in off-road applications. Designed primarily for preparing slopes in larger ski resorts due to its power and size, the new concept vehicle is another step towards PRINOTH’s goal of a zero-carbon fleet.
The LEITWOLF h2MOTION can be the ideal solution for sustainability-oriented ski resorts whose remaining CO2 emissions are largely attributable to slope grooming. The vehicle is fully ready for field tests and offers familiarity to customers used to traditional machines.
FPT Industrial, the world-leading producer of low environmental impact solutions, presented the LEITWOLF h2MOTION during the Ski World Cup in Flachau, Austria. The presentation was part of the discussion on sustainability in winter sports organised by Snow Space Salzburg Bergbahnen. The event highlighted ideas and new technologies that can reduce the environmental impact of all activities connected to skiing.
The XC13 Hydrogen Engine: A First Concept Towards a Complementary Offer
FPT Industrial leveraged its long experience with alternative fuels to develop the XC13 hydrogen engine. The engine is a first concept towards a complementary offer to accelerate the decarbonisation process of the industrial applications sector. The hydrogen combustion engine installed on the PRINOTH LEITWOLF h2MOTION is an additional technology in the FPT Industrial portfolio for zero CO2 emission solutions.
