iSimangaliso Wetland Park is situated along the east coast of South Africa in the KwaZulu-Natal province. The park is declared as a world heritage site because of its diverse biodiversity and unique ecosystems. It is comparatively smaller in area but rich in variety of animal and plant life.
Large numbers of hippos, crocodiles, pelicans, flamingos, elephants, giraffes and leopards inhabit the park. A video surfaced where an angry elephant is seen trying to flip a vehicle.
A husband and wife along with their two children were inside the vehicle, when the attack took place. The reason for the angry elephant is unclear but the bystanders filming the video can be heard clearly. A male tells the woman to “phone them”.
“I don’t know who to phone,” the woman responds.
The elephant didn’t give up after flipping the car, it kept on shoving its tusks into the vehicle. The elephant took a leave after a while. All the passengers of the vehicle escape with minor injuries.
Many incidents of elephants going violent are spread online. The animal human conflict continues to occur, be it in the name of tourism, encroachment or just to acquire natural resources.
