Nissan recently unveiled the Max-Out, a new all-electric convertible concept car, at its global headquarters in Yokohama, Japan. This new concept is a physical embodiment of the idea Nissan developed back in 2021. The Max-Out is a two-seater convertible that features a retro Eighties design aesthetic, with a futuristic twist. The car features long rectangular grilles at the front and rear that also serve as light sources.
The interior of the Max-Out is equally impressive, with a steering yoke that illuminates at the top, two lounge-style seats, and a large screen for vehicle status and infotainment. According to Nissan, the seats can also be transformed to create more storage space. The car is designed to offer stability, comfort, and dynamic cornering and steering response, and it’s said to be very lightweight, using Nissan’s e-4ORCE dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. Although the company has not released the power figures for the Max-Out, a similar drivetrain in a Leaf concept car produced 304 horsepower and 501 lb-ft of torque.
While it is unlikely that the Max-Out will go into production, it serves as a glimpse into Nissan’s future vehicle lineup. The Max-Out is one of several electric vehicle concepts on display at Nissan’s Futures event, which aims to showcase Nissan’s innovations in electrification, vehicle intelligence, power management, and more.
Nissan has not offered a convertible since discontinuing the 370Z Roadster in 2019, but the Max-Out concept demonstrates the company’s continued commitment to innovative design and sustainable mobility. The car offers a liberating sense of openness while providing an enhanced driving experience. However, no information has been provided on whether the Max-Out or any of the other Nissan Futures concepts will make it to production. The Nissan Futures event is taking place at the company’s Global Headquarters Gallery from February 4 to March 1, 2023.
