Unisnacks Europe Ltd has issued an urgent recall for its Orion Turtle Chips Sweetcorn Flavour after discovering the product contains undeclared allergens that could pose serious health risks to certain consumers.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) announced the recall after finding the crisps contain milk, soya, and wheat (gluten) that aren’t listed on the packaging. The affected products are 80g packs with best before dates of April 10, 2025, and April 24, 2025.

“This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, and/or an allergy to soya and/or an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten, or with coeliac disease,” the FSA stated in its official notice.

For those with allergies, the NHS notes that reactions can include symptoms like rashes and swelling of facial features, sometimes becoming life-threatening with breathing difficulties. For people with coeliac disease, consuming gluten triggers an immune response that damages the gut and prevents proper nutrient absorption, leading to various symptoms as detailed on the NHS website.

The manufacturer has contacted relevant allergy support organizations to spread awareness about the recall. Retailers have been instructed to display point-of-sale notices explaining why the product is being recalled and what customers should do if they’ve purchased the affected items.

Customers who have bought the crisps and have any of the mentioned allergies or intolerances are advised not to consume the product. Instead, they should return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund.
