Cheshire Farm has issued an urgent recall for two of its ice cream products due to undeclared hazelnuts, creating a potentially life-threatening situation for those with nut allergies. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has released an emergency warning for consumers regarding specific batches of the company’s Caramelized Biscuit Ice Cream and Biscoff Ice Cream.
The affected products include 1L tubs of Caramelized Biscuit Ice Cream with batch code L24150 (best before November 29, 2025) and Biscoff Ice Cream with batch codes L23139 and L23261 (best before November 19, 2024 and March 18, 2025).
“These products contain hazelnuts, which are not mentioned on the label,” the FSA stated in its alert. “This means the products are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to nuts.”
Health experts warn that allergic reactions to nuts can manifest in various ways. Symptoms range from mild issues such as stomach pain, sneezing, and itchy skin to more severe reactions including nausea, vomiting, facial swelling, and breathing difficulties. In extreme cases, exposure can trigger anaphylaxis, a potentially fatal condition requiring immediate hospital treatment.
Allergy UK estimates that tree nut allergies affect approximately 2% of children and 0.5% of adults in the UK. Those with existing peanut allergies face an increased risk of 30-40% of developing tree nut allergies.
