Toyota is set to unveil a new electric crossover on March 11, 2025, expanding its growing lineup of electric vehicles. The new model appears to be the production version of the 2022 bZ Compact Crossover concept first shown at the LA Auto Show.
Design and Features
The automaker has released teaser images showing a sleek silhouette with a raked roofline and extended bonnet. The vehicle features Toyota’s new “hammerhead” front-end design and a distinctive rear lightbar across the back.
Based on available information, the crossover will likely sit between the bZ4X and the hybrid-powered C-HR in Toyota’s lineup. The interior is expected to follow design elements from the new C-HR, including a 12.3-inch infotainment system, raised center console, and digital driver’s display.
“Featuring a sleek and stylish coupe design combined with elevated driving dynamics and surprising space, comfort & versatility, this all-new battery electric model is inspired by Toyota’s heritage of creating products with strong emotional appeal,” Toyota stated in its official press release.
Battery and Performance
While Toyota hasn’t revealed specific technical details, the new EV will likely offer multiple battery options similar to the recently launched Urban Cruiser electric SUV. Expected battery choices include 49 kWh and 61 kWh packs.
Power outputs are anticipated to range from 142 hp to 181 hp, with both single-motor front-wheel drive and dual-motor powertrain options potentially available.

Market Position and Strategy
This new electric crossover represents an important step in Toyota’s plan to expand its EV lineup to six models by 2026. Industry analysts note that Toyota appears to be moving away from its “bZ” naming strategy, possibly adopting more consumer-friendly names for its electric vehicles.
The new model is positioned to compete with other electric crossovers like the Volvo EC40 and Smart #1 in the growing EV market.
According to the source material, “the sales pace [of the bZ4X] picked up through 2024 thanks in no small part to hefty discounts.” The upcoming crossover, with its more stylish design, could further boost the automaker’s presence in the electric vehicle segment.
Global Availability
The new EV was designed at Toyota’s European design center in France. While the company hasn’t announced which markets will receive the vehicle, its debut at the 2022 LA Auto Show suggests potential availability in North America.
The timing aligns with Toyota’s $14 billion EV battery plant in the US, which is scheduled to begin shipping batteries in April 2025.
